Queen 04:35
They say that I should be a Queen To rule and leave my feelings be Charge into fight my head held high Ignore my fellows' silent cries They say that I should wear a crown To roll my eyes and never look down That I can’t help the world if I Won’t help myself before I try That we should smile and do the same As they have done under their reign O-o-o I don’t want to close up O-o-o I don’t want to leave myself behind O-o-o I wanna savor every bit of emotion O-o-o I wanna care They say that I should use my fists To show my strengths and always resist To punch and to learn the use of guns To never regret what I’ve become If that’s our equal goals today Then I no longer wan’t to play I no longer want to play O-o-o I don’t want to close up O-o-o I don’t want to leave myself behind O-o-o I wanna savor every bit of emotion O-o-o I wanna care

I Gotchu 03:25
If I had dollars I would pay your bail I could drop out of college I can see you're in hell Buy you playboys Put it all in the mail Chorus Sister come to me with all them woes I'll set you free I got you I got you Yellin in the street white man repo your new tv I got you I got you Do you smoke I could teach you Gotta lot of free time Rent a car for the weekend Spend a paycheck on wine Sister come to me with all them woes I'll set you free I got you I got you Yellin in the street white man repo your new tv I got you I got you Sister come to me with all them woes I’ll set you free

about

Evil Art Sessions is a series of live sessions produced by Icons Creating Evil Art and released monthly, via Youtube as live videos but also as digital singles for streaming. The artist featured each month is performing one of their original songs in a stripped down live version, along with making a cover of a song by an ICEA signed artist.

By releasing her Evil Art Session with Icons Creating Evil Art Bonander presents her new song 'Queen'.

She tells us: “I’ve performed Queen live for a while now so I’m excited to release a live version of it, since it’s the only version out there. Queen is about the paradox that comes with claiming that feminism is about encouraging women to be more ”like men”, that they should embrace what often as seen as ”manly” attributes. That we should be strong independent women, claim more space and dare to lead and control our surroundings more. Queen is a hymn for, what often by our stereotypic society coded as ”women attributes”, emotion, passion, feeling a lot of feelings, caring about others before you care about yourself… These are all amazing qualities and we should increase the status of those qualities. There is beauty in not seeking power, beauty that should be seen as something to strive for."

For her cover, a brand new interpretation of a label-siblings song, bonander chose Tollivers ‘I Gotchu’ originally released through Icons Creating Evil Art in 2018.

"I actually heard this song live for the first time when Tolliver performed in Stockholm and completely fell in love with it! There is something utterly unique and genuine about Tollivers music and voice. He is such an amazing performer and songwriter! Also the emotion and darkness in his songs speak to me and I think we share a lot of common ground in our music making. I was so happy he said yes when I asked if I could perform I Gotchu: such an honor! The song is about his brother so changing the lyrics to sister felt like a good way to go and honor the essence of the song: for me it’s about keeping another person standing by being their support no matter what."
