about
Bonander's music has an intrusive darkness that leaves no one untouched. From a feminist and norm-critical perspective, heavy topics are conveyed through beautiful lyricism and melodic playfulness in challenging electronic soundscapes. The epic 'Martha' is based on the protagonist of a book by the first woman ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, Bertha von Suttner. The book ’Lay Down Your Arms’ is about the peace activist Martha who in a male-dominated everyday life tries to get the men she loves to refuse war.

Lyrics
Martha, I’m sorry for all the pain
Martha, I’m sorry for all the tears and blood shed in vain, shed in vain
shed in vain, shed in vain
Martha, I’m sorry for the shame you feel fighting
Martha, I’m sorry for the hate you meet
trying
it’s not in vain, can’t be in vain
it’s not in vain, can’t be in vain
The world is closing in
Leaving its mothers cold
for some long forsaken honor
for some godforgotten goner
Wo-oh
The world is closing in
Leaving its mothers cold
for some godforsaken honor
for some godforgotten goner
Martha, it doesn’t get better
Martha, the monsters are greater than ever
none to gain, it’s none to gain
none to gain, it’s none to gain
Martha, I wish I could fight like you
Martha, I wish I could dream like you
We’re all the same, we’re all the same
We’re all the same
The men are charging in,
leaving their mothers cold
for some godforsaken honor,
for some godforsaken goner
The men are charging in,
with proud heart body and soul
for some godforsaken honor,
for some godforgotten goner
Martha I wonder,
how can I face these men
their uniforms and guns
these army dreamers
army dreamers
army dreamers
army dreamers

Music and lyrics by Bonander
Dream away in a feministic witchland, where you can find drama, darkness and a hint of quirkiness. Ellinor Sterner Bonander
has a sound that pushes boundaries while remaining accessible. With a vocal style reminiscent of Björk and Kate Bush she combines dark and dramatic pop with just the right amount of experimental, electronic sounds and always keeps the listener on her toes....more
